Bay Area Bomba: Bomba In Santa Cruz!! - Saturday April 5, 2014

Join us for a special dance workshop led by Julia C.Cepeda directly from Puerto Rico. Musical accompaniment will be led by Dense Solis, Director of Las Bomberas de la Bahia, and celebrated percussionist and dancer from Bomba Aguacero Ali Luna, who is now based in Santa Cruz. Come support amazing artists and help bring a new dance form to Santa Cruz!
~Ladies, please bring a skirt to this class, if you have one~

Bomba is a traditional form of Puerto Rican music and dance. The central feature of all bomba dancing is its improvisational character. The dancer calls, with her or his moves, for specific accents and figures, piquetes, that the drummer has to execute on the drum. This occurs in the form of a friendly yet fiery competition where each dancer and drummer showcases their skills.
