About Me/About this blog

About Me

I'm a native of Atlanta, GA born and raised. I've always loved music, but after listening to the likes of Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo in mid 90’s I developed a passion for Afro-Latin percussion.  I moved to New York City in pursuit of a professional degree and the hopes of learning Afro-Latin percussion in a city I knew was famous for it.

About this blog

I envision this blog/website as a place where Bomba and Plena practitioners in North America can discuss up and coming events, where Bomba is going strong, who various performers are and their recordings, recent performances, where a teacher will be appearing, and the different approaches to Bomba.

Yours truly,

D

  2. Greetings from Manny Cepeda. I am the nephew of Rafael Cepeda Atiles and a friend of mine connected me to you. I want to let you know that I've just finished a CD production called "Roots/Raices" and it will be dedicated to my uncle Rafael Cepeda and the family. My mother was the sister of Rafael and I grew up going to their house in Villa Palmera and becoming interested in music since very early. I am now a full time musician/composer/singer/percussionist in San Diego, and I perform regularly in the San Diego/LA area. I you would be interested in hearing more about my upcoming project, let me know. I do want to thank you for promoting Bomba y Plena music to the world. Best Regards, Manny

  4. Hi Dee,
It was a pleasure establishing communications with you. We'll definitively keep in touch so that I can keep you inform of the Roots/Raices production as I'm going to call the CD. How much do you know about Rafael Cepeda? You know he is known as the Patriarch of Bomba y Plena of Puerto Rico. Just in case you might want to share this with your friends of Bomba y Plena so they know the roots, here is the link to his Bio. Enjoy!! and Keep in touch. Manny
