Chicago Bomba: Las BomPleneras at fundraiser for National Boricua Human Rights - February 9, 2013


On February 9th, Chicago's all female Bomba y Plena group Las BomPleneras will be performing at 11PM for "ChiRican" a fundraiser for the National Boricua Human Rights Network, to be held at Multikulti located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60642.
This "ChiRican" event  will feature an open mic starting at 8PM showcasing various poets and artists. Live music is schedule to begin at 10PM featuring Trio Superior, 11PM Las BomPleneras and 12:30AM Suena Latin Jazz. Live dj spinning provide by DJ BasketQase and DJ Bohique.

    The “Plenazo” is a community activity that has been celebrated in Puerto Rico, New York, Chicago and Boston. It is framed by the “Plena,” a contagious and appealing Afro-Caribbean music and dance form developed in the working class communities of Puerto Rico.Plena symbolizes unity, strength and heritage of the Caribbean and Latin America diaspora.


    This is a FUNDRAISER for Community Arts Advocate and Humano Multicultural Arts Project! Tickets are $35 but if you have a group of five people or more interested in going, it will only be $30 each! TAX-DEDUCTABLE so please make checks out to Community Arts Advocate.

    Humano Multicultural Project:
    Since 1987, Humano Multicultural Programs has served over 20,000 children and youth in Greater Boston, New England and Puerto Rico in schools, neighborhood settlement houses and community centers. Humano has successfully addressed high student drop-out rates with workshops and media projects on racism and diversity, self-esteem and roll models, peer-pressure, drugs and alcohol abuse, AIDS and sex education, plus violence and conflict resolution. This year Humano is in a year long residency at the New Mission High School in Hyde Park through a grant by EdVestors. This benefit will provide needed funds for student program supplies and guest artists.

These women are the next generation of NYC's most gifted drummers, singers, dancers and educators of Afro-Latin and Afro-Caribbean music, including Palos, Congos, Salves, Bomba and Plena. About the AfroBembé Cultural Networking Series
AfroBembé Cultural Networking Series, a sequence of African Diaspora themed parties to build community support for renovation of the landmark firehouse that will be the center's new home in El Barrio. Attendees will meet New York City's most creative "doers and shakers" and celebrate the vibrant heritage of diverse cultures across the globe. Parties will be held twice a month from December 2012 - February 2013 and will feature DJs, live bands and the sights, sounds and tastes of the African Diaspora. This innovative and dynamic series pays homage to the diverse international community of El Barrio.
