NY Bomba: Legacy Women at Multicultural Event to Benefit WBAI - Saturday February 15, 2014



Come to Big Road in Chelsea at 7 PM on Saturday, February 15th, 2014, for a multicultural event that will benefit WBAI, 99.5 FM, free-speech, listener-sponsored community radio in NY. The program will preview the 2014 edition of the New York African Chorus Ensemble's"Celebrate Diversity, Celebrate You" Festival. There will be three great musical acts, dancers, poetry and a short film, including:

--the NY African Chorus Ensemble - an award winning group of virtuoso vocalists, musicians and dancers directed by the NYACE founder, ethnomusicologist Joyce Adewumi (lead singer in the video below), showcasing a wide range of African vocal music in choral settings.

--Niall O'Leary's Percussive Irish Music and Dance Ensemble, led by World Champion step dancer, multi-instrumentalist and cultural educator Niall O'Leary.

--Legacy Women - an all-women group of dynamic singers, precision drummers and expressive dancers performing the music of the Afro-Latin Caribbean and highlighting the role of women in preserving and transmitting culture. They will also be showing and discussing the film, "Birthright Crisis 2012," concerning the ongoing crisis faced by people of Haitian ancestry in the Dominican Republic, including many who were born there, but are being stripped of their Dominican citizenship and deported to Haiti (a neighboring land where most have never been).
