Chicago Bomba: Puerto Rican Arts Alliance's Loiza in Chicago - Saturday November 23, 2013

Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA) proudly presents “Loíza in Chicago”, a traveling exhibition that explores the West African and Spanish history of Puerto Rico’s Vejigante tradition. Inaugurated in January 2012 at PRAA’s new cultural center, it features the sounds and rhythms of Afro Caribbean drums and dances accompanied by costumes and masks from the coastal town of Loíza, Puerto Rico. This Harris Theater performance culminates the two-year exhibition and will feature AfriCaribe, for an evening of percussion-driven music and dance forms rooted in African traditions and accompanied by vibrant Vejigantes masks and costumes.
