Seattle Bomba: Puerto Rican Bomba Class with Angel "Balancé" Reyes - Thursday July 31, 2014




Ángel "Balancé" Reyes. CLCD Workshop: This traditional Puerto Rican Bomba workshop, led by Goddard alumni, resident artist, and respected elder Angel "Balance" Reyes, will cover the basic step, paseo (stroll), saludo, figura, piquete of the primary four Bomba rhythms: Sicá, Cuembé, Yubá, and Horlandés. The instrumentation will also be introduced (maraca, cuas, and barril drums). Maestro Angel will share background information about the historical contexts under which Bomba Music was created in Puerto Rico during the times of slavery on the sugar plantations as well as its African, Indigenous, and Spanish roots. (Suggested Donation: $10.00)
