La Familia of Los Pleneros de la 21 hit the road once again, this time, we're headed to Williams College, Williamstown MA for an evening of interactive performance, education and all out jam of Boricua Bomba & Plena - LP21 style!

If you're a student at Williams College or you're around, stop by, we'll love to see you there.

LP21 performances and educational activities on the road are made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Arts - sponsor of LP21's 'Local & Touring Residency Project". Through this program and several others, LP21 has been able to take these roots musics to all corners of the world.

Boston Bomba and Plena: Exploring the African Diaspora Through Caribbean Dance and Music - Sunday November 23, 2014

Boston Bomba: Roots & Rudiments - Bomba - Friday November 14, 2014

Afro-Antillean Roots and Rudiments is a new collaborative project between artists focused on the preservation of Afro-Caribbean history through music and dance.

Next week the project launches its first workshops/gatherings in Boston with special guest artists Nicky Laboy CajaDura, Jorge Arce, Sandra Marcelino and Eli Pabon Lady Enchantress

Through percussion and dance workshops we will explore African influence in Puerto Rico dating back to the 15th century, how its influence has been preserved and the significance of its preservation.

Two gatherings next week open to all:

Wednesday Nov 12th 7pm-9pm ( Bomba percussion and dance workshop)

Friday Nov 14th 6pm-9pm (Bomba percussion and dance workshop with Bombazo)

Costs (help pay for space, transportation and other fees)

$20 per gathering ($10 for children and youth)
or
$35 for both gatherings (must pre pay at door on Nov 12th to receive discount) ($15 for children and youth)

The Puerto Rican Cultural Project and the Holyoke Public Library are pleased to invite you to be part of an event to open the Holidays’ festivities on December 7, 2013 at 7 PM at the Holyoke City Hall Auditorium. This event will feature three pillars of the music from Puerto Rico in an unprecedented concert. 

Roulé Candela on Main Street: An Afro-Caribbean and Carols Concert promises to be a musical experience that travels from our grass roots rhythms in a combination of traditional dances of Puerto Rican Bomba and the interpretation of some of the most beloved songs of Puerto Rico and the world.

On stage will be: Yoruba II led by Lydia Pérez, a nationwide renowned representative of the music and dance of Puerto Rican Bomba, with William Cepeda, an internationally renowned and Grammy Award nominee jazz musician who combines Bomba as base to his brand new style call Afro-Rican Jazz. Joining them will be International Tenor, Charlie Berrios, a native from Puerto Rico living in Holyoke, who has performed with some of the world most prestigious opera companies in Germany, Italy, and Paris, who will be performing some of the most celebrated Puerto Rican Christmas Carols. 

This event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all converging nostalgia, music and culture.
