A day featuring exciting performances, youthful celebrations, games, crafts, face painting and community fun all offered by parents, children and adult students of LP21's unique community school of Bomba and Plena traditions, is the perfect way to kick start the summer and help herald the proud accomplishments of the next generation of cultural warriors!

A wonderful and FREE event (suggested donation of $5.00) is great for children young (and the young at heart)!

PLUS, all those attending have first hand access to secure their seats/spaces for the 2014-2015 season and class program of the BPCW (starting Fall 2014).

Bring your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and your childlike spirit, as we venture through the music, song, dance and arts and crafts created by students (from 2 yrs old through 65+), that capture our shared identity as caribeños and sense of self and pride as individuals!

VA Bomba: Semilla Cultural presents Children's Bomba Dance and Percussion Workshop and Adult Bomba Dance Workshop - Sunday May 18, 2014

By popular demand, we bring you another children's bomba workshop! 

The workshop will cover percussion, basic steps, a dance routine for boys and girls and an individual practice. We encourage you to bring your child to learn and experience Puerto RIcan culture while having fun. Children between 4 and 11 years old are welcome to attend. 

This workshop will be on May 18th, 2014 at 12:30pm at My BodyMovez in Woodbridge. (Just before the adult bomba dance workshop https://www.facebook.com/events/656342584413006/).

We extend you an invitation to learn about the Afro-Caribbean music and dance from Puerto Rico called BOMBA. It is a music and dance that dates back to the 1700s, developed by the African slaves that worked in the sugarcane fields, and it is still alive in the island and in the diaspora. It is a dialog between the dancer and one of the many drummers. The dancer makes body figures called 'piquetes' and the lead drummer --called the 'primo' or 'subidor'-- interprets them in the drum. One dancer at a time 'challenges' or 'talks' to the 'primo' drummer through his or her dance sequence. Bomba is a personal expression, it is freedom, it is our legacy and our treasure.

We are returning to Woodbridge! If you missed our past workshop, this is your chance! We will be offering a Bomba Dance Workshop at My BodyMoveZ on May 18th, $20 for each teen, adult or senior (men and women). Join us to understand the history, learn the dance and feel the culture!

This Saturday only, we (Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance and Cultural Center) are hosting a special Bomba dance workshop (ages 6 through teens) by Bomba master and elder Jorge Emmanuelli Náter and his team for our community children. Pre-registration required. Space is limited.
